Our Beliefs

The Bible

We believe the Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error in the original documents. It has the supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. We believe the Bible is not an obscure book. We teach that, if read in context, what it has to say becomes clear.

God

We believe that there is one true God, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. God is not distant and uncaring; He is intimately involved with His creation. He hears and answers prayer, and He saves everyone who comes to Him through Jesus.

Jesus Christ

We believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He is God’s only begotten Son, conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life. He suffered and died, taking the penalty for our sins so that we could be forgiven. He rose bodily on the third day, ascended into Heaven, and will personally, visibly return to earth, bringing those cleansed by His sacrifice into eternal blessedness and judging the wicked.

Holy Spirit

We believe that the Father and the Son gave the Holy Spirit to regenerate, indwell, and empower all who believe in Jesus. He comes to live in us when we place our trust in Christ. He helps us, teaches us, and guides us, and convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.

Salvation

We believe that we’re all created in the image of God, but are also sinners both by choice and by nature—every one of us. It’s impossible to be good enough to earn salvation—we need to repent of our sins and trust in Christ. Then we are washed clean by the Holy Spirit, not because of our goodness, but because of God’s grace and mercy. We are then enabled by the Spirit to live lives for the glory of God and the well-being of our fellow men.

The Church

We believe that Jesus started the church. The universal church is composed of all people in any Christian denomination throughout the centuries, who through faith in Jesus have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit. The local church is any group of believers who get together for worship, Bible study, prayer, the ordinances (baptism and communion), fellowship, and evangelism of a lost world. Traditions of the church are not to be blindly followed, but always tested by Scripture. We believe the motto of the Reformation: “The church that has been reformed has always to be reformed.” Believers are to live their lives for the glory of God and the well-being of others.
