Food drive

On Thanksgiving weekend 2011, Twin Lakes Church concluded our food drive, raising 1,229,961 pounds of food for Second Harvest Food Bankplus $30,000 for WorldVenture to feed refugees on the Somalian border.

This all developed out of a study of Isaiah 58, where God corrects people who had forgotten the poor and hungry:

If you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.

Isaiah 58:10

We decided as a church to try to raise a million pounds of food for the local food bank, plus more for African refugees. Even small children got into the act, selling handmade paper kites door-to-door, or holding "board-break-a-thons" with their martial arts clubs. More details in news stories below.

To God be the glory!

History

We believe that providing food for the hungry is an essential part of what it means to be a Christian. Twin Lakes Church partners with Second Harvest Food Bank throughout the year to raise money and nonperishable food to be distributed to those in need throughout the county.

Starting in 2006, we began an annual food drive. Our first year, our goal was 50,000 pounds of food. This year, our goal was one million pounds of food. The county has families that are hungry. We want to feed them.
