Support Students

Join us to stand in the gap and help families with their needs for childcare and tutoring/homework help.

With distance learning and parents going back to work, there is a lot of concern that students will fall through the cracks academically and there are needs for children to be in safe places with good supervision.

Here are ways you can get involved:

YOUTH NOW - tutoring and enrichment classes for 6-12 graders

Youth NOW is an established program in Watsonville that has reached out to Middle and High School students for years, providing tutoring and other enrichment classes after school. They will be continuing their outreach and support of students this Fall, but could use more help in a few areas. Check out their website

Tutors: We are in need of at least 5 committed volunteers to assist 1-2 students each with 4-8 hours of school/homework help per week. We are seeking retired teachers or those with educational backgrounds in the past or starting out in courses now. Volunteers must be comfortable with Middle School Math. We would have both on-site tutoring, possibly outside if comfortable and virtual tutoring through zoom meets.  Background checks and orientation training required.

Enrichment Volunteers: We are in need of at least 5 Saturday volunteers for Art/Reading/Games/Music Activity Days. Possible skills or classes would be guitar, art, music, knitting, etc. Volunteers would be able to assist with creating/setting up and overseeing bi-weekly activities outside. Commitment to 2 Saturdays 10-12 PM. This is on site in Watsonville. Orientation meeting required.

IT Tech Assistant: We need at least one IT tech assistant to troubleshoot, expand internet outside, and set up TV-computer-internet connections and the like.

We will also be looking to help Youth NOW purchase needed school supplies, art supplies, fun stuff, plexiglass separators, chairs, tables and canopies. If you want to help in this way, contact Paul at

Fall Kruz Kidz – Day Camp for Kindergartens to 5th Grade

Our incredible day camp program that we usually run in the summer will be continuing in two different locations to help provide childcare and support distance learning for elementary age kids.

We hope to have a location in Watsonville and one in the eastside of Santa Cruz. We will need a number of different types of volunteers to help with registration, tutoring and homework help, recreation, crafts, group leaders, and much more. Details are still being worked out. Hours will vary.
