Our Beliefs
At Twin Lakes, our beliefs are rooted in the truth of God’s Word and the life-changing message of Jesus. Everything we do flows from our desire to love God, love people, and live out our faith with purpose.
The Bible
The Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired, infallible, and entirely trustworthy. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. (2 Timothy 3:16) The Bible has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. The books of the Bible should be interpreted according to their context and purpose and in reverent humility to the Lord.
God
There is one true God, eternally existing in three persons: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 3:16, Matthew 28:19, John 8:58 & Acts 5:3–4) God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. (Genesis 1:1) God is not distant and uncaring; He is intimately involved with his creation. He hears and answers prayer, and He saves everyone who comes to Him through Jesus. (John 3:16–17)
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man (John 1:1, 14, 10:28–33). He is God’s only begotten Son, conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:35), and lived a sinless life. He suffered and died, taking the penalty for our sins, so we could be forgiven. (Ephesians 1:7, Colossians 1:14) He rose bodily on the third day, ascended into heaven, and will personally, visibly return to earth, bringing those cleansed by His sacrifice into eternal blessedness and judge the wicked. (John 11:25, Acts 1:11, Rev. 20:11–22:21)
Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is God. He is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make humanity aware of their need for Jesus Christ. (John 16:8, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 12:12) He lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer assurance of salvation and a spiritual gift for service in the church when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily.
Human Beings
People are made in the image of God. (Genesis 1:26–27) Although every person has potential for good, all of us are by nature marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin”. This attitude separates people from God and causes many egregious problems in life. (Romans 3:19)
Salvation
Salvation is God’s free gift to us, but we must receive it. (John 1:12) We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. We are saved from sin’s penalty and declared righteous only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness by His grace.
Eternal Security
Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. (Romans 8:38–39, 1 John 5:12-13)
Eternity
People were created to exist forever. We will all be raised from the dead. (John 5:28-29) We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. (Job 1:6-7, Matthew 25:46, Revelation 20:14–15)
The Church
We believe that Jesus started and continues the church. (Matthew 16:18, Ephesians 1:22–23) The universal church is composed of all people in any Christian denomination throughout the centuries who, through faith in Jesus Christ, have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit. The local church is any group of believers who gather for worship, Bible study, prayer, the ordinances (baptism and communion), fellowship, and evangelism to a world that needs Jesus. Traditions of the church are not to be blindly followed but are always tested by the Bible. We believe the motto of the Reformation: “The church that has been reformed has always to be reformed.
